I'm wondering if it's possible to access the tv's systems with the Chrome cast remote. I want to set a sleep timer without resorting to my old remote. Thanks

No. The most you can do is turn on/off, volume up/down, mute, and input select.

The Chromecast remote is not designed to access the full range of TV functions.

I use the app Key Remapper to add new mappings to keys on the chromecast remote:

Button Mapper: Remap your keys - Apps on Google Play

Try to add a long press event to a key and launch an timer app for example:

Sleep TV Timer - Apps on Google Play

Maybe this works.
