You really need to press hard to slide the battery compartment open. On the back press and slide the cover.

I had to find something thin and strong to pry it open. Pressing was not sufficient. Not a good design.

LucieA, you might feel it's hard to remove the battery cover. This design is intentional, but if you can't remove the cover when you slide it forcefully, you may try the steps below:

Stick one end of a cellophane tape to the bottom of the back of the remote. Use the other end of the cellophane tape as a pull tab.
Pull the end of the cellophane tape as you press the circular dented surface firmly (refer to the following photo).
