Chromecast switching the TV off

My Cromecast with Google TV switches itself off after a period of inactivity, and that causes the TV to power off. This is really irritating if I have been using Chromecast and have switched to watching something else on the TV. Is there any way I can either stop Chromecast from timing out, or stop that from switching the TV off?

Hey there Maylyn,

I apologize for the late response, and thank you for being patient! There are a few ways to prevent your Chromecast with Google TV from timing out and turning off your TV. The first thing you can do is change the timeout setting on your Chromecast. To do this, follow these steps:

On your Chromecast, go to Settings > System > Power & energy.
Under "Display timeout," select the amount of time you want your Chromecast to stay on before turning off.
Select Save.

Another setting to check is HDMI-CEC. This is a feature that allows you to control your TV and other devices with your TV remote. If you're using HDMI-CEC, your TV may turn off automatically when your Chromecast times out. To disable HDMI-CEC, follow these steps:

On your TV, go to Settings > System > Advanced settings.
Select HDMI-CEC.
Uncheck the box next to "Enable HDMI-CEC."
Select Save.

Thanks for that. Initially I couldn't find anything in either the Chromecast or the TV settings corresponding to what you had written, but eventually I found a Remotes and Accessories section in the Chromecast settings, and drilling down into that I found that Power Button was set to Auto(CEC). I switched it to Chromecast, and the TV now remains on when the Chromecast goes off.
