Could not communicate with chromecast

When i try to set up the chromecast my phone finds it, but when i try to set it up it loads for a long time and then gives me the message Could not communicate with chromecast. this is before i get to set it up on wifi or anything so its nothing to do with internet

There are a variety of reasons for the "could not communicate" error. I'd recommend trying these steps:
