CEC not working with TCL Roku TV

I have a Chromecast with Google TV hooked to my TCL Roku TV. All devices firmware are updated. I have double checked CEC is enabled on all devices. I have a Roku soundbar, Nvidia shield, and apple tv that CEC work on fine. I cannot get CEC working on the Google TV. I have factory reset the unit and still nothing. Any suggestions.

First, try to unplug the TV from the mains power grid for about 5 minutes, then try again.

We have a TCL Roku TV also. CEC intermittently fails. We did complete resets, power cycles, etc. and it fixed it . . . for a time. Now out again. CEC does not "see" the soundbar that is connected. We use HDMI and optical connection, as ARC also works intermittently. I have googled this in depth. Seen suggestions that you cannot have more than one HDMI device plugged in. That did not change the behavior (plus, worked with the device plugged in before). Carefully did the protocol of unplug all, plug in and turn on TV, plug the soundbar into HDMI, THEN turn on soundbar. Same behavior. Tech at TCL said it is a "compatibility" issue. It think the TCL CEC is glitchy. Too bad, because we really like the TCL picture (after we finally figured out how to brighten it up - you have to actually run a program and then hit star, bizarre, until then, everything very film noir), and have used Roku platform for years and like it. The Roku channel even provides good free content. But this is really a fail, so much wasted time.

Until the HDMI CEC protocol is standardised across all manufacturers we will have compatibility issues all the time, because every manufacturer has the liberty to choose how it implements HDMI functionality. That's why we have different names, like Link, Anynet, Sync, etc, for HDMI CEC depending on the manufacturer, because they want and expect to use their own equipment instead of the competitors.

No, it is not working. The last thing we did was put the soundbar back on HDMI arc. It worked for about 4 days. Then it stopped working unless we turned the TV/soundbar off and back on. This is, obviously, quite a bit less than expected performance. Note this soundbar worked seamlessly with a 4 year old Vizio before this TCL Roku TV experience - in other words, the problem is on the Roku TV end.

I should add that based on our experience when we first bought the TV in October, turning it on and off will stop working soon.

Chiming in about six months later because Googling about this problem got me here: I have a Chromecast with Google TV plugged into a Denon AVR-S530BT, which plugs into a TCL 55p605. Using the Chromecast remote, everything turns on fine, and input switches appropriately on the TV. But when turning off, the receiver (and obviously the Chromecast) switch off fine; but the TV remains on

I used to have the Chromecast plugged straight into the ARC plug of the TV -- and essentially the same problem happened. So, this problem, or at least a version of it, is still occurring. Pretty **bleep** annoying.

Putting this here for the next person who inevitably has this problem as well: So far as I can tell this remains unresolved.

I'm really sorry to hear that you're running into this issue as well. The Chromecast with Google TV is designed to be directly plugged into the HDMI of the TV, but you said that the CEC issue still occurred regardless? If you don't mind, would you be able to re-create the issue, then submit feedback via Google TV so that the engineering team can have your logs of the issue?

For my part, I don't think there's more that I can get with this thread. To summarize my own issue:

Chromecast with Google TV → HDMI ARC of Denon AVR-S530BT → HDMI ARC (1) of TCL 55p605, the remote using CEC:
- Turns on and off the Denon receiver
- Turns on the TCL TV, but does NOT turn it off
Chromecast with Google TV → HDMI ARC (1) of TCL 55p605 (not through receiver), the remote using CEC:
- Turns on and off the Denon receiver
- Turns on the TCL TV, but does NOT turn it off

Same behavior. I'm liable to suspect this is a TCL problem, given that the receiver is fully controllable. Regardless, I don't think there's anything else I can try that hasn't been tried, so don't keep this thread open on my account. (Can't speak to the original poster's needs.)

This does not work. We have to turn on the soundbar first, then the TCL Roku TV, or we get no sound at all. Turning off the TV does turn off the soundbar, at least for now. The software appears wonky, I wish TCL would update this.

I think the thread should remain open, because the issue is NOT resolved. I keep getting emails telling me if I am not having issues, the thread will be closed. Am still having issues, but gave up, and won't buy another TCL in the future.

Hi folks,

I'm sorry for the late response here. If you have a TV with a Roku built-in, could you please try to select Roku (not your TV brand) as the device brand? After that, try to set up the Chromecast Voice Remote buttons by following the steps here.
