HBO Max app 'not compatable' with brand new chrome cast with Google TV (Netherlands)

Hello,

I have just unboxed and set up a brand new ChromeCast with Google TV. HBO Max is available in the Netherlands as I have been using it on my computer. However when viewing the App on GTV, it simply says it's not compatible with this version. I'm confused, i have the newest version and there are no software updates

Cannot figure out why it wont work. My google account was originally created in Australia, where HBO max is not available, not sure if that has anything to do with it.

I have previously been told to follow the below steps:

In this case, it may be easier to change your Google Play Store settings via a mobile device. Here are the instructions on how to do so via Android:
On your Android device, open the Google Play Store app.

At the top right, tap the profile icon.
Tap Settings

General

Account and device preferences

Country and profiles.
Tap the country where you want to add an account.
Follow the on-screen instructions to add a payment method for that country

I have no android device and was also told:

'Do you have an iOS device, or perhaps a tablet? You can follow similar steps on the Google Play Store app on those devices as well.'

However there is no 'Google Play Store app' for my iphone in the app store? I have no tablet Ive tried this on google tv app doesn't have the options/work or on the play store website too and it doesn't have the options/work

At a loss as to why i cannot just download this app. Do I need to make a new google account starting here in the Netherlands to get around this?

Yes, the reason is the country of your Google Play account is set to Australia, where HBO Max is not available. Changing the country of your account will fix the issue, but unfortunately I am not aware of any solution how to do that without an Android device...

I see. That’s pretty annoying. I wonder if I can start a new account located in the Netherlands just for the HBO app and go between the 2 on my google TV device?

Hey Dave! You have to change the country to your country on ur google account that has max avaible on otherwise u won't be able to watch it

The issue is theres no way to do this. I dont have an android phone etc

No help for IOS users though there is no option to change country!

The fix for me was to use VPN. Set the vpn to Portugal download THE HBO MAX app turn vpn off again and it now works perfectly in the Netherlands😀

This thread is for using a Chromecast with Google TV! no problem using HBO MAX on iPad's iPhones or Browsers😀

Hi there,

I’m sure it is for a Chromecast device. Kindly read above about the instructions for changing the country for your Google Play Store. Just login to Google Play via Android device or via Chrome browser for non-Android users (the reason for my last reply). Change it to Netherlands.
