Hi glso4t,

Thanks for posting and for being a step ahead of us. Based on the message, it prompted you to factory reset your device. The fact that it still has its name, Room.b, means it wasn’t cleaned up yet. I suggest you do a factory reset manually first. Delete the Google Home app from your iPhone and restart it before you install it again. Open the app and don’t set up any devices yet. Log into your account, then leave the app. Follow these steps:

From your iPhone, ensure that Bluetooth is on and you're in front of the TV (2 to 3 feet). Then go to Settings > WiFi and look for the Chromecast device (Chromecast1234, Living Room TV, Den TV, etc.) from the available networks.

Connect to the Chromecast device (Chromecast1234, Living Room TV, Den TV, etc.). It will not ask for a password, but it might give you a message that says "Unsecured Network" (just ignore it). Once connected, go back to the Google Home App.

From the Google Home App, it will ask you to choose a home (use the same home as before or create a new one if you don't have one yet) and then proceed.

As you move along with the setup, the TV will show a code that should match the code on the app. This will confirm that we are setting up the right device.

Continue with the setup until you connect it to WiFi or a mobile hotspot (for those who don't have home WiFi). Somehow, you will be familiar with this.

If it still fails, try another smartphone to set it up. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Hi

I'm trying to setup my 2nd gen chromecast to my TV. I tried all the steps below but none seem to work. I always get the error on my Google Home app "Connection failed. Couldn't connect to Chromecast. Try factory resetting to your device. Tap get help for mor information." These are the instructions I followed at first (and failed as they didn't work).

Make sure your Chromecast is within 15 - 20 ft (4 - 6 m) of the Wi-Fi router. If you have a dual band router, try to set up your device on both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.

Make sure Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are both turned ON on your phone or tablet.

Turn OFF mobile/cellular data.

Reboot your router. Most routers just require that you unplug the power source and then plug it back in to reboot.

Reboot Chromecast by removing the power cable, then reconnect it.

Make sure you're using the latest version of the Google Home app, by checking your app store for any updates.

Restart the Google Home app.

Android: Swipe up from the bottom, hold, then let go. Swipe up on the Google Home app.

iPhone/iPad: Swipe up from the bottom, hold, then let go. Swipe up on the Google Home app. On older devices with a home button, double-click the Home button, then swipe up on the Google Home app.

Turn Wi-Fi off and on again on your phone or tablet.

Reopen the Google Home app.

Then I tried to connect manually to Chromecast's (SSID). I connected to a wifi named "Room.b", went on to open google home and it connected to my chromecast. Then the app says "connecto to Wi-Fi" and my wifi doesn't show up so I enter manually (other wi-fi network...). I fill the form for the wifi details (in security field I hit "none" as WPS wasn't turned on on my router, don't know why). Then I click on connect, it says "Connecting to Wi-Fi..." and it connected. Then the app says "Please connect to 'my wifi here' . You are currently not on the same Wi-fi network as your device. Please connect to the appropriate Wi-Fi network to resume setup". So I disconnect from "Room.b" and connect to my Wi-fi (at this point my TV screen still says "can't connect to Wifi"). I then showed "connected" and then a message shows up "Something went wrong. RoomTV may be set up, but we could not communicate with it from your iPhone. Make sure that you have enabled local network access in your iPhone's privacy settings. Then try again". Of course I had it turned on, and tried many times to connect again but with no success. Any idea what else I can do?

Sorry for the long post but I wanted to tell you exactly what I do so maybe you can find what's wrong. Thank you in advance.
