Chromecast difficulty

I have purchased a Chromecast enabled Google TV (Sony) and I am wanting to cast my laptop screen to the TV screen. I have seen adverts for Chromecast handsets, have read articles on Google Home and Google Nests, have seen articles about Chrome, but I don't think that I am fully understanding what I am doing! Is there anyone out there who can help me, please?

Firstly, you'll need to setup the Chromecast part of your new TV:
Set up a TV with Chromecast built-in - Google Cast Help

Once setup, you can follow these steps to cast from your laptop to your TV:
Cast a Chrome tab on your TV - Google Cast Help

I am using a laptop. Instructions seem fine for mobile phone. Do I need to do anything else or buy anything else?

Setup has to be done using the Google Home app on a mobile phone.

Once setup, you can then cast a tab from Chrome to your TV.
