That actually doesn't work - just returned a set of speakers and a chromecast with google tv for this very reason. The sound is completely out of sync with the video and there's no way to fix it.

I was quite surprised that google TV can't output to the speakers over wifi like my phone can, pretty disappointing..

Hi there!

I'm having issues getting sound through my Optoma Projector when Chromecast is hooked up to it. I've also tried plugging an external speaker into the projector and the sound comes out very very low even at full volume. Is there any way to change sound settings through the Google Home or otherwise?

Hi folks,

Appreciate your input here, @mattmandu.

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community, @alicia6. The best version to use on projectors and monitors, especially the ones that have no audio out or built-in speakers, is the Chromecast with Google TV. It can be paired with Bluetooth speakers, so it can split the video out and audio out on its own. The older versions of Chromecast devices, though, have no such features. Either the projector or monitor should have its own audio output or built-in speakers. Older Chromecast sends both audio and video feeds directly through an HDMI connection. Some users use an AV receiver since it can split audio and video, but the change in quality and/or delay for video or sound may be subjective. It could be HDMI communication, physical connection via cords and wires, or the involved devices. The best way to isolate if there’s something wrong with the Chromecast device is to connect it directly to a functional TV.

I hope this sheds some light on the situation. Let us know if you have other questions.

Thanks,

Kimy

Hi mattmandu,

Thanks for the reply. I’m sorry if you feel that way. The communication over WLAN that you do using your phone is via casting. Yes, you can cast to the Chromecast device and to the Google Nest speaker and display, but you can’t cast to both at the same time, especially if you’re casting audio+video types of apps like Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, Prime Video, etc. You can create a speaker group and add these devices, and you’ll be able to cast audio-only apps like YouTube Music, Spotify, Pandora, etc.

If you ever change your mind and use Chromecast devices again in the future, feel free to create a new thread for your questions or concerns.

Regards,

Kimy

In retrospect I understand there's a technical limitation and I also understand why Google wouldn't want to advertise this limitation, but from a consumer experience point of view it's definitely sub-par.
