When playing content from any app, I see frame stuttering. My tv Is set to the correct refresh rate.

For example, playing a movie source at 24fps with tv also set to 24fps results in stuttering. This is true of all frame rates. 60fps content on a 60hz tv for example, still does not play smoothly.

I am aware of the hack using developer mode to set hw overlay off, which resolves the issue, BUT.. why should I have to set that to get a working piece of hardware? It resets quite a lot and this device should just work out of the box.

Hi gpedder,

Thank you for reaching out! I understand you're frustrated that you're experiencing frame stuttering when playing content on your TV, even though you've set the refresh rate correctly. It's definitely reasonable to expect a smooth playback experience without having to use workarounds.

In this scenario here are some troubleshooting steps and see if the issue can be resolved:

If you're currently casting content to your Chromecast, disconnect the cast session and then re-cast

Toggle Wi-Fi off/on the Casting device (make sure to reconnect to the same Wi-Fi network that your Chromecast is connected to)

Exit any battery-draining applications that are running

Turn off power saving mode

Decrease the distance between the TV, casting device (phone/tablet/computer), and Wi-Fi router

Confirm that your casting device meets the minimum system requirements to support casting

Confirm that the Chrome browser, device operating system, and Chromecast Firmware are up to date.

Reboot the Chromecast and your Wi-Fi router

If none of the above troubleshooting steps work, I'd recommend you to fill out this Contact Us form to get further assistance.

Keep me posted!

Regards,

Ivan

None of that list is relevant, it obviously needs a developer to fix it as there are lots of people suffering the same issue. The problem with google support is that there's the usual scripted replies and no actual real support with a bug google itself is responsible for.

Hi gpedder,

We've tried some great troubleshooting steps, but the issue persists. It's possible that a weak Wi-Fi signal might be contributing to the problem. A strong and stable connection is important for smooth video quality.

We’ve gone through our troubleshooting steps and determined that there might be a problem with your internet connection. As discussed, we recommend that you get in touch with your Internet Service Provider for further support to resolve your Internet connection issues.

Have a great day!

Regards,

As usual you are barking up the wrong tree. As I stated, with hw overlays off it works perfectly.
