My wife has iPhone/iPad. I have Android. I bought the new Chromecast w/Google TV (4k) for several reasons, but particularly so that we could cast her device to our Samsung TV, specifically when she is using FaceTime with one of our kids. (Having the two of us try to view one small device is not appealing/working for me). The last time this question was asked/answered was in 2021, and I assume things (may?) have changed. Note - she has installed the IOS version of Google Home on her devices, and she has been able to use her device to act as the Chromecast remote. And she has been added as a second account. But I/we have not succeeded in casting anything. I need detailed steps and descriptions, including definitions of terms (since I am *not* knowledgeable of the Apple-verse). Note - I do not want/care about casting from a YouTube or Netflix or other streaming app on her device to the TV; we already have most streaming apps *on* the TV itself and use them directly. It is primarily FaceTime (or any other IOS communication app that might be used) that I want to cast to the TV.

Thanks for helping,

 -ceej

PS - is it true that you still cannot mirror an IOS/Apple device the way you can mirror an Android device?

Unfortunately, what you want to do is called Screen Mirroring because the apps you want to cast are not cast-enabled. But, Apple declined to support that feature on their devices.

That is why you can mirror on your Android device but not on your Apple device.

There are apps available that claim they can do this for you. Do a Google search for "cast facetime to chromecast" to find reviews. I have NOT used any of them so I cannot suggest or endorse any. Be very careful about fees. I have heard some have a very expensive subscription cost.

OK, thanks for the reply. I think I actually understood. Specifically and most important, there is no (native) Screen Mirroring capability on Apple devices. But let me ask for more clarification. It seems from what you said that Facetime is not cast-enabled. Where/how can one find 'the list' of what Apple apps *are* cast-enabled and what are not? And if an app is cast-enabled, then it should display the 'TV screen with wavy lines' cast icon.

Unfortunately, there isn't a list. There are 10s of thousands of apps that are believed to be cast enabled. Google released all the tools so that each developer can do that for their own app without having to work with Google.

Yes, if an app is cast enabled you will see the little TV icon somewhere (though, I think Spotify uses a different icon)

I have used AirReceiver which can be downloaded on to any Chromecast or Google TV device or a Fire TV. it puts Apple's Air Play on the chromecast which enables screen mirroring from any iPad or iPhone. It costs $3 and is well worth it because it is super stable and reliable it works as well as if AirPlay were a native feature on the chromecast. I use Android my wife has an I phone and she screen mirrors her phone easily and often to our chromecast. Check out this video on YouTube https://youtu.be/vMGS_5CsLsc

Thanks for the link to the video! It was very informative. Except ... It only talked about installing AirReceiver on a FireTV. I did not see anything about on a Chromecast device. Or on a Samsung TV. It seems like it could be on either. And if so, how does one know/choose which is best? My (currently cursory) searches for AirReceiver and Chromecast have not been useful, yet. So any more info that you have would be appreciated.

Ahhh.... I went to my Samsung TV and discovered that we have AirPlay on it. And my wife used it to display/mirror her phone - she found/used what I think of as a cast icon. So next we tried FaceTime - she sent me a link and we got connected, but she could not find any AirPlay icon in the FaceTime app. Nor how to just mirror her iPad. So more to research. But I'll take help!

OK, Samsung TV supports AirPlay. After some work I found how to open the Control Panel/Screen on my wife's iPhone and found the Screen Mirroring button. So, that 'should' work when using FaceTime. And pretty much any other app on her iDevices. So no need to 'cast'. In any case, we will try that to see how it works.
