I've been given a chromecast (no tv or remote)can a buy and add a chrome tv remote to control YouTube as my daughters getting a little frustrated

Update Google Home application and use its built-in remote.

Upgrade to Google Chromecast with Google TV which is running Android TV and includes a hardware remote control.
