Google Chromecast won't search across apps despite having permission

I got a Chromecast Remote recently and it was working fine. Suddenly today if I press the voice assistant it pops up saying to give permission to search across all apps (which I accept) and then some other thing that I agree to, then it goes back to the home page. I press assistant again and it does it again, over and over. If I go over to "search" manually, same thing. How do I fix it?
