Chromecast down/up arrows not working

The down/up navigation buttons have stopped working on my Chromecast remote, although they were working fine last night. I have tried factory resetting the remote, taking out the batteries, unpairing/repairing the remote to my TV, and installing the latest update for the remote - nothing has worked. All other buttons on the remote work. What other solution can I try?

Go to Contact Us - Google Nest Help
Select an appropriate option, type a brief description of the issue, then click "Next".
Click "Other", then click "Next step" until you see the contact options.
Choose to get a call or call or chat with the team as available in your country.
