Where may I obtain access to the Chromecast setup software that allows me to setup on my laptop? Worked fine two days ago but can't find the setup software. Do NOT want android or iphone which is all I can find.

To setup Chromecast 1st generation on your PC:

download and install Google Chrome browser on your PC
enter the following address in your Chrome browser: https://www.google.com/chromecast/setup/
On the Chrome Setup screen, click on Set Up Your Chromecast using this Computer link
ensure that your laptop is connected to WiFi network on 2.4 GHz bandwidth
Agree with Chromecast privacy terms
Once you accept the terms, the webpage will start searching for available Chromecast devices connected to your WiFi Network
On the next screen, click on Set Me Up button.
Connect to the Chromecast device open WiFi network
After connecting to Chromecast’s open WiFi Network, click on the Next button
On the next screen, click on the Yes Arrow, if the Code appearing on the screen of your Windows computer is matching with the Code appearing on the bottom right corner of your TV
On the next screen you will be asked to provide a Name for your Chromecast. Type any Name that you would like to use and click on Looks good
Next, you will be asked to confirm your WiFi Settings. Select your WiFi Network, Enter the Password for your WiFi network and click on Connect
Chromecast will display, Ready to Cast! screen.
Once you see the Ready to Cast screen, you are all setup and ready to Cast anything playing on the screen of your laptop

Thanks for the prompt and detailed response. However, the problem is where there "used to be" a line below the icons which said something like "Set up computer" it isn't there anymore and the two icons are for Android and iApple", not PCs. Am I missing something?

Hey there 12mile,

I'm sorry to say, but you are correct. If you check out the article on setting up your Chromecast device, there is a note saying "We no longer support Chromecast setup on a computer. To set up your Chromecast, use a mobile device."

At this point in time, the only way to set up your Chromecast device is by using the Google Home app. I'm really sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you.

Thanks for the follow-up. I am pleased to report that I got it working on my laptop. Don't ask me how because I don't know but I tried everything I could think of and it now works, no problems.
