Control speakers with google tv streamer remote

Hi. I can't get the google tv streamer remote to work on my speakers. The speakers are connected to the tv with an optical cable. I have tried to add the speakers in the remote settings but the speaker brand does not appear on any of the list over brands that are supported. Is there a way to learn the inputs from the speaker remote to the google tv steamer remote?
