Microphone button not working with apps

It's cool being able to use Google Assistant on this but it's frustrating because you can't just use the mic button to do a voice search within individual apps. Some apps are designed where you can just press the mic button within the app and it works but most don't so when you press that button it just searches everything again and takes you out of the app. The Roku remote doesn't do this and let's you search within pretty much every app.
