Chromecast not picked up on tv when tv turned on

My new chromecast cannot be seen by my tv when the tv is turned on I have the chromecast plugged into the HDMI port on the tv. If I unplug power from the chromecast it will then come up on the tv. Any recommendations on what to do?

Your TV HDMI ports may experience some handshake issues.

Check if there is any software update available for the TV.

Alternatively, when you switch on the TV toggle between input sources.
