I am considering buying a Google TV Streamer. I am confused about how it works. I want to watch catch-up TV and stream shows from extra channels that are not the regular free-to-air ones. Do I have to control it through a mobile phone? Other information talks about voice control. Is that necessary? I have a smart TV (a few years old) and I can connect it to the wifi in the house.

Any help would be appreciated.

I was not sure whether "web browser" was the right category to choose.

You must use a mobile device to set it up with the Google Home app. Once setup, you don't need to use a phone to control it, you can use the included voice remote. You don't need to use your voice to control it if you don't want to.
