QR code or Number not showing on TV when adding chrome cast to google home

I am trying to add my chrome cast to the google home app, however when I get the screen on the app that asks for a QR code or number, there is no QR code or number showing on the tv. I have been through every part of settings looking for it with no luck. Both the app and the. Hromecast have the latest updates applied.
