TV remote not working after installing Chromecast

Just received a Google Chromecast with Google TV and installed it right away. After it was all installed, my regular TV remote which I used for turning it on and off, volume and switching channels does not work anymore. Changing batteries did not work, it's like it's just dead. No red light showing whatsoever. However the change the channel functionality on the Google remote also does not work. Already deleted my TV from the settings of the remote.. what else can I do?? I cannot control my tv at this point and I do have other things connected that I cannot access right now.

Put the TV remote in pairing mode.

Alternatively, if available, download a TV model compatible remote application from PlayStore.
