topic cast across subnets - network requirements in Streaming

My home network is a combination of wired and wireless access points that are divided into a few subnets.

The problem I am trying to solve is that devices connected to one subnet cannot detect cast targets in other subnets. I've read various articles & posts on different forums about multicast DNS, the DIAL protocol, IGMP proxies, and UPnP but I cannot find a definitive answer of what the router (between subnets) needs to support in order to facilitate/allow the traffic needed for detection of castable devices between subnets.

Once I know precisely what is required, I'm hoping to be able to engage the router manufacturer and maybe even configure a NAT setup to get this working.

Thanks

Hi mr10101011101,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. Based on your description, it seems that you have a more complex network setup than a simple home Wi-Fi that a Chromecast device is intended to work with. Were you able to cast from cast-enabled apps on devices that are connected to the network/bandwidth (2.4 GHz and/or 5 GHz)? Your Chromecast Ultra can detect and connect to either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz, but it will only remember one network/bandwidth at a time. I hope this sheds some light on the situation.

Let us know if you have other questions or concerns.

Thanks,

Kimy
