No Dolby Atmos on Chromcast with Google TV

I have a Chromcast with Google TV (HD), model G454V, which is connected directly into a Samsung HW-Q990D soundbar. When playing Dolby Atmos content, e.g. from Disney+, on the Chromcast the soundbar shows that the sound is delivered in Dolby Digital Plus, not Atmos as expected. I've tried to disable all formats except Dolby Atmos in the Chromcast settings and it resulted in Stereo sound being output.

Please advise how to troubleshoot this issue.

Hello Qkumbra! The Chromecast HD supports three audio formats: Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, and Dolby Atmos (pass-through). 'Dolby Atmos (pass-through)' indicates that the Chromecast detects a Dolby Atmos track and sends it directly to a compatible device (like a soundbar, AV receiver, or TV, or in this case, to your Samsung HW-Q990D soundbar.) for processing and playback.

- Dolby Atmos: An immersive audio format that adds height to traditional surround sound, creating a more three-dimensional listening experience.

- Pass-through: This means that the Chromecast isn't altering or processing the Dolby Atmos audio. It's simply sending it as is to another device.

In short, seeing 'Dolby Atmos (pass-through)' on your screen indicates that your Chromecast has detected Dolby Atmos audio and is correctly sending it to your compatible sound system, such as your soundbar, for an immersive audio experience.

Please note that not all content features Dolby Atmos. To ensure you're getting the intended experience, verify that your soundbar is receiving the signal correctly, as the Chromecast is only passing the signal through and not decoding it.

I hope this helps you.

Hi Rwiinbo, than you for your response.

How can I check that Chromcast indeed passes-through Dolby Atmos?

You can check some settings directly on the Chromecast with Google TV:

Go to Settings from the Home menu.

Select Display & Sound.

Choose Audio, then Surround sound. Ensure it's set to "Best Available" or similar.

While streaming 4K content, some apps might have their own audio settings. Look for an Options > Audio > Audio Output menu within the app to see if Dolby Atmos is listed or selected.

Check this link:

https://support.google.com/chromecast/answer/10110321?sjid=-NA

I hope this helps you verify your Chromecast's Dolby Atmos passthrough!
