Chromecast with Google TV won't turn off CEC enabled TVs

I have 2 Chromecasts with Google TV, both connected to different brand TVs in different rooms. CEC enabled, all correctly connected.

Up until about a month ago, Google Assistant could successfully control the TV's using the Chromecast (both thru my Google Homes or my phone), especially when telling it to turn them off, but now it just stopped working. When I initiate the command, Google Assistant still responds "ok turning off TV", but it doesn't. On my phone, it still throws up the on/off control in response, but again does nothing to the TV....it worked fine for months. Routines with the command also respond correctly but similarly don't control the TV. I've cycled power in all devices, reconnected to the WiFi, etc. My other older gen Chromecasts still work as expected...so it's not Assistant.

I figure maybe a firmware update in this Chromecast model is the culprit? I haven't tried a factory reset, maybe that's my next step...

Try to toggle the HDMI CEC protocol on and off.

Replace the remote control batteries, even if they still show up a "good level" in Chromecast system settings, because, in fact, their performance may not be optimum anymore.

Hi, thanks, I've done this and still the same result. It's definitely not a problem with then Chromecast remote, it's with the CEC controller in the Chromecast, specifically because it's an issue on two different TV's that are two different manufacturers in two different rooms...and it started happening to both of them around the same time.

Thanks for getting back to us. To clarify, are you using the voice remote to turn off/on your TV or are you doing it via voice command using your Google Assistant enabled devices? Also, have you tried doing a factory reset on your Chromecast and voice remote?

The problem lies with Google Assistant in any of my devices - Google Homes, Hubs, Pixels and the voice remotes. Assistant responds to the voice command "turn off the TV" as if it's working, but then the TV just stays on (happens that way for both TVs).

I haven't factory reset either Chromecast, I'll give that a try...

Got it. Let me know how it goes after doing a reset. Also, make sure your TV's firmware is updated by checking the TV user manual. You may contact your TV manufacturer to verify. For additional steps, you can also check this support website article.
