Hello @GuusDiender,

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Nest Community Forum. I understand that you have a Google TV Streamer (4K) that only functions when connected wirelessly using your NAS to watch films. However, when the Ethernet (UTP) cable is plugged in, the device loses functionality. No worries; I’m happy to assist you.

To help me narrow down the cause, please provide a bit more information:

When you plug the UTP cable into the streamer device, do you notice any change in the LED lights?

Have you verified that the UTP cable works with another device (like a laptop)?

Please feel free to share any additional details that might be relevant.

Best regards,

I bought a Google TV streamer but was only able to get The chromecast functionality working when connected wireless. So far so good. The thing is that I also have a NAS to watch films. As soon as I plug in the UTP cable the chromecast functionality is gone.

I prefer to use the TV streamer only with a cable as it is a more stable connection. Is there a way
to get a cabled connection and the opion to use Chromecast?

When a Google TV streamer loses Chromecast functionality after switching from Wi-Fi to a wired UTP (Ethernet) connection, it’s usually due to network configuration issues rather than a hardware fault. Many home routers place wired and wireless devices on slightly different network segments or apply isolation settings, which can prevent casting devices from discovering each other.
Since Chromecast relies on local network discovery, features like AP/client isolation, guest network separation, or disabled multicast can break casting over Ethernet even though internet access still works. Checking router settings and ensuring both the TV streamer and casting device are on the same subnet is key—this kind of issue is commonly explained in a Chromecast over Ethernet setup guide, which walks through enabling multicast, UPnP, and proper LAN visibility so you can keep the stability of a wired connection without losing casting support.
