I want to listen to the audio from my Sony Brava KDL-40V4100 through a wireless bluetooth JLAB headset but I don't get a signal. My configuration is obviously wrong but I don't know how to fix it.

Here is my configuration:
I have a 2nd generation Google Chromecast connected to the HDMI-in port.

The Chromecast uses my home WIFI channel broadcast by a my Netgear R7000 router.

In the TV settings, devices/audio "HDMI Audio Output" is checked. I am not sure that settingg works because when I go back to it the checkmark is gone.

I use Google Home App on my Pixel 2XL cellphone to control the setup of the Chromecast device.

Do I need to change the configuration or do I need to buy a device?

It may be that your Sony Bravia TV model do not support Bluetooth audio and, in that case, you may need a Bluetooth audio transmitter.

The Sony TV itself does not support bluetooth. I thought the software in Chromecast took care of that - as some websites say.

Perhaps if I buy the generation 3 Chromecast for $30 -- might that allow it to work on a TV that doesn't sport bluetooth?

Chromecast with Google TV is the only device with support for Bluetooth audio.

Alternatively, you can use your TV digital optical audio output to send the signal to a headphone amplifier & DAC with support for Bluetooth audio.

I should work. However a dedicated DAC with headphine amplifier and support for high resolution Bluetooth audio should be able to deliver a higher sound quality.

Alternatively, you can consider the Chromecast with Google TV also, because it runs its own operating system, has a remote control and it can add smart capability to your Sony Bravia KDL-40V4100 TV.

I am a hard-of-hearing old-timer with hearing aids, so I suspect I wouldn't hear the better quality of the sound from a dedicated DAC would provide.

On the other hand, I am thinking of taking your suggestion of adding Chromecast with Google TV to my Bravia KDL-40V4100 TV. Would it interfere with the operation of the BT transmitter that I have ordered? Or could the Chromecast serve my BT headset? (I can return the other transmitter.)

Perhaps I would be able to access services that would substitute for my current high priced Xfinity X1.

Chromecast with Google TV has Bluetooth audio support built-in, therefore it will be able to directly connected to your wireless headphones.

I already mentioned it in my second reply to you.

I am wondering if the Google TV will work as I want. I want to receive TV audio via bluetooth to my headset. That includes my current programming on Comcast cable through their cable-box. Currently, my gen 2 Chromecast shows up on the TV on a different TV input channel.

Will Chromecast with Google TV be able to send the audio by BT that is coming in from the Comcast Box?

Chromecast with Google TV will only send Bluetooth audio for its own content. It will not be able to transmit the cable programs audio, because these are broadcasted to another input. For the cable programs audio you can use the standalone Bluetooth transmitter and receiver.
