I have watched as many videos as I can and have made every effort to figure out what I have done...I received this as a gift and it didn't come with any documentation...so there you go. Everything I've done is from online sources. Below is the wiring of my former thermostat. There is a jumper between Rc and RH.

I have installed the wiring according to the picture below from this forum. And, when I plug the thermostat into the pbase, I get a warning that there is a missing wire AUX and W2. HELP! Do I need to reset the thermostat?

Hey there,

Sorry for the late reply. I wanted to follow up and see if I could be of any help. Do you happen to know what type of system you own? Do you have a dual fuel system, or heat pump? If you have a heat pump, the W2 wire may control your auxiliary heat. Auxiliary heat helps heat your home when it’s too cold outside for your heat pump to work efficiently. Here is an article with more details on that. Please let me know if you are still having any trouble from here, as I would be happy to take a closer look and assist you further.

Best regards,
Jake

Jake, Thanks so much for responding...to me it was a shot in the dark. So, when I connected the wires according to the diagram, my heat pump only heated using auxiliary heating...that being the most expensive heating. Is there a way to tell the thermostat to NOT do that?

Hi folks,

I wanted to stop by and see how I could help.

Thanks for helping here, Jake.

I understand that you would want to save energy by running the heat pump alone, which can be more economical than using auxiliary heat. You could try adjusting the lockout temperature from the heat pump balance. Please check out this article and let us know if that helps.

Regards,

I don't know how to adjust the heat pump settings. I contacted the installer and I was told to stay away from the NEST because they haven't been very easy to work with. So, I'm hoping to find some direction that makes this affordable. Currently, I have unhooked the NEST and am using my former thermostat.

Hey there,

I'm sorry for the late reply, and thanks for letting me know about the missing heat pump settings. If it's not showing, it's most likely the setup configuration. Could you please share with us a photo of your Nest Thermostat's wiring? This is to confirm that it was labeled as a heat pump.

I'll look forward to your response.
