I am trying to figure out if the Nest thermostat (not the learning one) is compatible with what I have currently

Possibly, but it's hard to tell for sure. It is difficult to see the letters that go with the colored wires. For example in the photo what is the terminal letter for the green wire? If you can determine terminal letters, document here. Or just use the Compatibility Checker to see if it is compatible.

P.S. This posting might be better in the Thermostats forum rather than Home Automation.

@Jonesie925, thanks for reaching out to us with a photo of your thermostat's wiring for the Nest Thermostat's compatibility. I wanted to stop by and see how I could help.

We'd like to know what the green wire was used for and what label it was connected to. It's still Nest Thermostat compatible if it's a G or for fan control. But you might need to install a C wire or a Nest Power Connector if you're planning to have the Nest Thermostat 2020 model. Please let us know if you need more help.

The green wire goes into "G" . I just wasn't sure why there's another red wire that just goes into a u shape.

Hi there,

Thanks for getting back to us, @Jonesie925. The U-shaped wire connected to the power terminals of your thermostat is a jumper wire. Nest Thermostats don't require you to use a jumper wire, so you won't need to connect it. Make sure to follow the other wires to their designated terminals for their configuration. Also, here's your reference to learn more about thermostat jumper wires, and let us know if you need more help.
