the google/nest home hub is a huge disappointment. i got it home, unboxed it, set it up, set it up again a few times and finally its all working right and i issue my first command. ok google set a timer for 3 minutes and just like that 3 devices in my kitchen (2 phones, 1 hub) start setting timers. i can't change the wake word on the device we will be shouting across the kitchen to interact with? all that potential with the screen, the high quality speakers, all of it, totally wasted because it can't do the 1 basic function every alexa can do flawlessly. i don't think anyone at google has ever actually tried one of these devices in their home. if they have, they clearly own iphones.

You can adjust the sensitivity of the wake word on each device if that's happening frequently.

thanks I understand that but its not a real solution. it would mean lowering my phone's sensitivity when i enter the kitchen where the nest sits and then raising my phone's sensitivity when i leave the kitchen. And everyone else with an android phone in my house would do the same. it just seams clear to me that no one at google is eating their own dogfood. i suspect most people on this nest team have iphones and that's why they haven't noticed this.

You also mentioned both your phone and the display respond, which shouldn't happen if you're using the same account on both.

yes, i have read that. and i have called tech support 4 times on this issue. i have referenced that article for the tech support people. and the advice that comes back is manually adjust your sensitivity and/or, sorry, the devices can't actually do what the article says. I wish it were otherwise. I wish someone could tell me how to fix it. i have invested multiple hours in trying.

No, adjusting sensitivity is sort of a non-solution. The good news is, things have started working. Now when I say ok Google what's the weather I'll see multiple devices engage but they seem to be working it out and only one answers. It's how it should work. I guess it just took a few days for all the systems to get the message they were connected. I would still like to adjust the wake word, however.

Hi mckennagene,

Excellent! Looks like the firmware update has fixed the issue. Follow the steps below to adjust Google Assistant’s “Hey Google” sensitivity.

Open the Google Home app.
At the bottom, tap Home.
Touch and hold your speaker or Smart Display.
At the top right, tap Device settings > Audio > “Hey Google” sensitivity.
Choose how sensitive you want Google Assistant to be when it responds to you.
To change this setting on another device, tap Adjust more devices.

I'm not clear what you mean. I had indicated that now when I say hey Google what's the weather only one device will respond. That's what I need. You suggested things about adjusting the sensitivity but I don't need a different solution and I have always viewed adjusting the sensitivity as a non-solution to multiple devices response because it's unrealistic to expect someone to adjust the sensitivity of their device down when entering a room with another device and then adjusting it back up when they leave that room. The good news is, the devices now talk to each other and delegate only one to reply. When android-having friends come over I can test if that extends to their devices too. If it doesn't, the solution can not be to ask others to adjust their sensitivity. If that happens then ability to change wake word would really be the only solution I can think of, but I'll have to wait and see.
