Virtual TV remote not available when TV internet connection uses wired LAN instead of Wifi

I used to be avke to control my TV vol, change channels using Google home app, when my TV was connected via WiFi. However now that I just changed to a wired LAN connection, the virtual remote doesn't appear at all, and I can only control volume. Does my TV need to be connected to WiFi instead in order to have more control options?

A few questions: what type of TV do you have? An Android TV or a Google TV? Also, make sure your Google Home app is updated.
