Google Home App not allowing a basic voice command automation starter "I'm going out" with action "turn on back door camera"

Steps: add automation>household routines>add>household>add starter>when I say hey Google "I'm going out">add starter>add action>adjust home devices>turn on back door camera (tick box)>add action>error message:invalid starter and action combination>learn more>goes to Google help screen https://support.google.com/assistant/answer/7672035?visit_id=638431353246485209-2931465202&p=starter_action_combos&rd=1>no help cos basically states that such a simple basic routine is possible but it is not.

funnily enough the household routine does actually save even though I get the above error but when I try to run it either by voice command or by tapping the play button Google assistant app and Google hub max both say "I don't understand"

Google home app and Google Assistant is on my iPhone but I have a Google hub max. The camera is Google nest camera battery.

I get the same error for routines that used to work but stopped working in the past month or two. Did you figure out what the issue was?

Hi JohnR. All my non-voice command routines continue to work ok. I haven't had a problem with them so far. These are routines that are set up to automatically start at a certain time of day. Eg turn on cameras at 2pm.

So apols JohnR but I don't know that our problems are the same although it sounds like you are getting a similar error message. 🤔

Note: I have had other problems with Google Home eg Hub max suddenly stopped displaying Google search results. I did a search on another device about this problem and I think it was a reset of hub max that seemed to fix it .. so I wonder if you do a further search about your issue to see if a device reset (or even turning device off and then on) would fix your problem?

My problem is with trying to set up voice command routines. These have never worked (I've been trying for over a year now) and Google support haven't been able to give a solution that works .. yet 😞

I've even tried adding an action to preset voice command routine "I'm leaving" but Google Home only allows one action : "turn up/down/off Dining Room Display volume" .. which is an action I would rarely if ever require. There are no other device actions for this preset starter available.

Also I wonder what other community members think of Hub Max? Hub Max seems only useful for streaming cameras when I ask, providing internet information when I ask, and notifying when doorbell tapped.

It doesn't notify if a person or animal is camera-detected and add to that the voice-command-routine-setup inability mentioned above. Maybe this is as good as it gets for now? 🤔
