iPhone Location Access Switching to "While Using the App"

I have an Android phone and my wife has an iPhone. Google Home uses my phone phone to automatically determine if I'm home or away and it seems to work pretty well. However, I'm having trouble with my wife's phone. I set her "Location Access Settings" for the Google Home app to "Always" and it seems to work fine for a few days. Then, it doesn't. When I check back, her "Location Access Settings" for the Google Home app seems to revert to "While Using the App" and I can't figure out why.

Any ideas?

Thanks for posting and that certainly hasn't been easy for you.

A quick question: what's the iOS version of your wife's iPhone? Have you tried reinstalling your Google Home app? Also, checking for phone system updates might help too.

I've updated her phone's operating system and uninstalled Nest, thinking that maybe there was something weird with Next and Google Home both trying to manage presence settings. That didn't work, though. It just seems that after a few days her phone always switches to while using the app. I haven't tried uninstalling and reinstalling Google Home, though.

Can you confirm if you are using the latest iOS version 16? Also, if there is a way that you can try to use a different phone so we can isolate the issue further and rule out if this is an issue with the phone's software.

My wife's phone is running iOS 16. Still randomly keeps switching to only use presence settings "while using" instead of "always." It's pretty frustrating.

Same here. My wife's iPhone 12 mini (iOS 17.3.1) keeps switching from "Always" to "While Using the App".
