I had the thermostat set as it always says 73°. We had a thunderstorm, but I know the power didn’t go out because nothing was blinking in the house so I came home and it was 78° in the house. Been trying to reset the device, but it just stays on temperature, don’t know what to do. Any advice?

Hi Tygerswife,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community. I am sorry that you are having issues with the temperature changes after a reset in your Nest Thermostat. But no need to worry, help is here.

Before we get started with further troubleshooting, let me ask you some important questions:

What Nest Thermostat model do you have?

Does the thermostat display show any error codes or messages?

Are you able to share a picture of your wiring?

Have you followed any troubleshooting already? (other than trying to reset your device),

What type of system do you have? (Heat Pump or conventional type)

In the meantime, here are some basic steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue:

Check Thermostat Settings:

Ensure your thermostat is set to the correct mode (heat or cool).

Check for any advanced settings or schedules that might be causing conflicts. You can check the following guide to Troubleshoot strange heating or cooling behavior.

I understand that you have already restarted the thermostat: You can also check the following article to Restart or reset a Nest thermostat depending on your device's model and make sure the correct process is followed.

Check that your system doesn't need maintenance.

Note: If you're not comfortable working with electrical wiring, consult a qualified technician (Nest pro).

Please keep me posted.

Best,

Mario
