Nest Mini Bluetooth Pairing with PIN

I have a speaker that has a pairing code that is not 0000 and can't be changed. Any attempt to use it as a Bluetooth speaker (which the Nest Mini is supposed to use as its default output) fails. When in the app, it reports that it can't connect (which of course it can't, because there is no prompt to enter the code).

I have this same problem with Amazon Alexa/Echo devices as well, which was my main reason for giving this a try. I looked up earlier help on Google Nest Mini and found this wasn't supported in 2020 but thought either a) it might have changed, or b) someone at Nest might seriously try to get this added - particularly since it would be something Alexa doesn't do either (and so is a competitive advantage for you).

How is this a fix to the problem? Same issues has been reported in 2021 https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Speakers-and-Displays/Nest-Mini-can-t-connect-to-bluetooth-speaker-that-requires-passkey/m-p/24236.

Are you ever going to enable this easy feature to make the system usable?

Thanks for reaching out. What Bluetooth version is installed on your Bluetooth device? Have you tried linking other Bluetooth devices to your Nest Mini? Since it’s not connecting to third-party speakers either, have you tried contacting the manufacturer of your Bluetooth speaker?

Yes have paired with other devices with out issue. It appears that the Bluetooth speak I need to connect to has a non standard pairing code that I cannot change and there appears to be nowhere to enter pairing code.

Understood. We would suggest that you contact your Bluetooth speaker manufacturer so they can update the Bluetooth software on your speaker to one that doesn’t need a code.

What a fabulous answer !! Are you serious ? You ask all the bluetooth manufacturers to disable pairing code rather than adding an option on google home for entering a pairing code ?

Is there a workaround for this yet? This seems ridiculous. I have bluetooth ceiling speaker in my home that I can't use in my "home".

I have this issue too. 😞 It's a real shame - the limitation here isn't really the 3rd party speakers, it's really a Google limitation. 😞

Came here looking for this too! My bluetooth ceiling speaker code is 1234. I just emailed the manufacturer asking if it's possible to set it to 0000 but I doubt it!

Manufacturer (Broan) says it's not possible to change the pin code. Is it possible to enter a code via Google Home app yet?? Looks like this has been a question since 2020.

I'm seeing a lot more chatter about this since my post back in May of 2023. How is it that? Any device that you try to connect allows you to enter a pin yet. Google. (Who is pretty much a top-tiered development team) Cannot manage to figure this out? The only responses I see is pushing the responsibility onto manufacturers to address their failures. Google, please take note : you have a lot of unhappy customers for something pretty simple

This post is coming up when I searched for the solution online.
I suspect the same is true of others looking for a solution - disappointing Google don't even recognise it as their problem, but the prominence of this post in search queries suggests it continues to cause problems for people.
