Doorbell Mounting Issue

I’m trying to mount a doorbell, the battery kind, using the existing wires from the old doorbell. It would be easy, but it’s not possible to push the wires back into the wall so the wires are in the way preventing the doorbell from being able to latch onto the mounting bracket. Any ideas?
