I'm sorry for the trouble this may have caused you — let's check this out.

A few questions: are you using a private or public network? Also, what's the exact message you're getting when connecting your Chromecast to your network

Give these steps a try:

Make sure your devices are within 15-20 feet of your router.
Reboot your Chromecast, router and your phone to refresh the connection.
Toggle the Wi-Fi off/on on your phone.
Turn off power saving mode.
Uninstall and reinstall your Google Home app
Perform a reset on your Chromecast.
