Class Action Lawsuit

Looking to pursue a class action lawsuit against Google Nest for disconnecting generations 1 & 2 from the app losing the ability to control. We understand the decision to discontinue supporting gens 1 & 2 with support and software updates, but not cutting off the ability to control the thermostat via the app. This is a blatant disregard to maintain the integrity of a product which the consumer purchased. The older generations worked just fine with no need to be forced to buy a generation 4 Nest thermostat.

Google’s decision to disable app control for perfectly functional Nest thermostats is unacceptable. Customers purchased these products with the clear understanding that app-based remote access was a core feature — not an optional add-on.

These Nest thermostats were sold at a significant premium compared to standard thermostats on the market. Most buyers paid that higher price specifically for the convenience and innovation of being able to control their thermostat remotely — a capability that Google is now taking away.

Ending software updates is one thing, but removing remote functionality for devices that still work perfectly well physically undermines consumer trust and the very principles of sustainable technology. This move effectively forces loyal customers into unnecessary hardware upgrades when Google could have easily maintained a basic “maintenance mode” for remote access.

It’s not only disappointing — it raises serious ethical and legal questions about product longevity, consumer rights, and digital ownership.

Count me in supporting any effort to hold Google accountable for this decision.

Theres a class action lawsuit and I signed up. I paid extra up front to have this feature...either fix or tell them to get sued.
