If you are looking to get a device off the shelf, you can get a light that has a motion detection capability and works with Google Home. Then you can use Google Home App to check the state of the light, with on indicating there is someone at the room, and off being it’s empty. You might also establish a similar system using a door sensor (open/close).

If you are a developer and looking to develop your own device, you can use one of the above systems or open up a feature request on our public issue tracker for a motion detection / occupancy trait.

Hopefully this is the right forum. I live with in a house with 5 bodies and 1 bathroom on the top floor. Can anyone think of a way of asking google if the bathroom is free instead of me yelling and/or hiking it up the stairs?

I see the smoke detector has some presence sensing but can it share what I'm asking? Looking for suggestions and ideas.

There isn't a product in the Google ecosystem that can help you with this. You'd need some kind of smart motion sensor that's compatible with the Google Home app. You'd then need to check with the manufacturer what kinds of commands you can ask it to see whether it's going to work for you or not.

Hey there,

davidking we appreciate your assistance.

Hobrough this type of feature isn't supported with any Google Home or Google Nest devices. We're always looking for ways to improve and to add more partners in the future. I also suggest that you send feedback using your devices by saying, "Hey Google, send feedback," or by following the steps on this link. Let me know if I can assist with anything else, otherwise I’ll be locking this thread after 24 hours.

Best,
