Familiar Face Detection

I'm an Illinois resident and was looking forward to using this. 740 ILCS 14 does not apply to Google within the capacity of using that data. While you are collecting facial data, it is not being used for commercial purposes. You are using the data for security purposes.

It really doesn't matter. At the end of the day, no one has an expectation of privacy in public. The law is unconditional.

Could you please read up on the law and allow the use of this feature back 8n IL?

Thanks for reaching out. I’m sorry for the delayed response. Nest’s familiar face detection feature is not available on Nest cameras used in Illinois. Certain state legislation may affect Illinois customers’ use of the feature, so we disabled it as a precaution. If the home where you’re using your camera is in Illinois, you shouldn’t be able to turn on familiar face detection in the Nest app. Use familiar face detection in compliance with the law. Depending on where you live, you might need to get consent to have your camera help identify people visiting your home.

That law does not apply to the use of data. That law is intended for prevention of SELLING that data. There's no expectation of privacy in public. Please allow this feature in IL!

Hey Darkeclipse,

I can understand where you’re coming from. We’d love you to enjoy this feature, however Google Nest’s Familiar face detection isn't available on the Nest doorbell or other Nest cameras in Illinois due to state regulatory restrictions. Customers in this state shouldn’t be able to turn this feature on in the Nest app.
