Heat not Cool

The mode will not switch fro heat to cool - it was on cool and I switched it to heat now it is hot again and it will not switch to cool. Temp is set to 68 and it is 76 in the house. No 800 number or help desk. About ready to rip it off the wall and put the old Honeywell back up. The one picture instruction is rather lacking. Any hints?

To isolate: what type of Nest Thermostat do you have? Are you also having trouble switching between temperature modes when using the Nest or Google Home apps? Here's your reference about switching modes.
