Nest Thermostat Setup keeps asking to replace batteries

Hi all. Trying to install a Google Nest thermostat. I’ve installed a couple of them so I’m aware of the basic wiring and process. I have the thermostat installed on the plate and all the wires are in the terminals. I go to set it up on the google home app and it keeps asking me to replace the batteries. I’ve replaced the batteries a few times and it continues to ask me to replace the batteries in order to complete the set up

I’ve had the same problem with my 2nd Gen battery-powered nest smoke detector. I’ve since replaced the lithium rechargeable batteries twice, then replaced the whole unit. It works but now it won’t sync with the hard-wired nests in my house (so it doesn’t show up as an additional unit like before.) I installed the system myself about 5 years ago without problems. What gives?

I should clarify that I did use the proper replacement batteries (Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA (L91) batteries) for my battery-operated smoke detector.

@Maverick13, I'm sorry to hear the issue is still persisting even after replacing the batteries. To isolate:

Make sure to use the recommended Energizer AAA 1.5 V Alkaline Battery.
What are the wiring configurations on your thermostat?
Are you getting any message codes or wiring report on your Nest Thermostat device?

@mmm062, I appreciate you've tried to find a fix by replacing a required battery specification for Nest Protect. Let's find out more about what happened.

Are you having an issue connecting it to the Nest App?
What's the status of your Nest Protect? Press the button at the center to check.

The problem is actually with my battery-operated smoke detector which is not connecting with my other hard-wired Nest smoke/carbon monoxide protectors. It should be noted that these smoke detectors were all purchased at the same time and were functioning correctly for 5 years. I’ve replaced the battery-operated (not hard-wired) when it seemed that the batteries appeared to be dying. This new unit was purchased with all the others as a spare.

Thanks for getting back to us. Could you please move the devices closer to each other and to your Wi-Fi router, then reset the devices? Once done, start setting up your devices Here's a guide: Set up Nest Protect with the app.
