Can’t sync nest with google home

I recently got two google smoke alarms which I had to set up through nest. The nest app works fine and automatically uses my google login, but when I try to add nest to my google home account it asks me to sign in using my email and password - my google one doesn’t work for this, and if I request a new password it never gets sent. Can someone help me with this?

Generally, Google Nest devices that are set up in the Google Nest app should AUTOMATICALLY show up in the Google Home app; you CANNOT set them up in the Google Home app.

However, if you're talking about Nest Protects, they do NOT show up in the Google Home app; see this long thread:
