Google WiFi Commission With FiOS WiFi?

I will be upgrading from a FiOS router/WiFi with WiFi repeaters to a multi-point Google WiFi mesh system.

I would like to get the Google WiFi up and running along with the FiOS WiFi at the same time. That way I can switch over all of my WiFi-connected devices in a more leisurely manner.

Some of the instructions I have read say that the existing WiFi needs to be turned off first. Is that really a requirement?

Any suggestions for conveniently doing the switch-over will be appreciated.

Assuming you will use the wireless backhaul and not wire the access points, the two WiFi nets should coincide just fine. Just keep in mind you have two separate networks unless you bridge the ISP's modem. Adding additional Google WiFi AP's later is also not an issue.

Keep your RF space clean and get rid of those WiFi extenders as soon as you are able to.

Thanks for asking EdwardT. I followed DoesNotCompute's advice and I'm up and running with no repeaters.

Only problem I'm having is connecting my HP laserjet 200 to the Google Wifi.

Yes, I get a message that the printer can't be found. More details: using MacOS; on the printer I use the wireless setup to change the SSID from the FiOS 2.4GHz router to the Google WiFi SSID, which appears to work just fine; subsequent wireless prints fail to find the printer; I also tried to add the printer with the Google SSID without success. Note also that the same is true for my Brother AIO device. I've browsed for online insights, but haven't found anything that addresses the issue.

Thanks for the added details. To isolate the issue,I would suggest removing and adding the printer on your computer after connecting it to your Google WiFi.

Good idea, but no joy in Mudville... When I assign the Google WiFi as the wireless network, the printer shows it is connected and it shows up as an online device in Google Home. When I add it as a printer and try to print, it never connects. I even tried to use the HP Easy Start and Utility apps, but without success.

I'm sure it is an "easy fix" but I don't have time (or energy) to do the debugging right now. I'll just leave it connected to my FiOS modem as the only item until I get the time to pursue it further. Fortunately, everything else is working like a charm on Google WiFi.

I got it working! Up to now, WiFi on my workstation had been off since I have a direct ethernet connection. For grins I turned on WiFi on the workstation and connected to the Google WiFi SSID. With the printer connected to the Google SSID, wireless printing is good to go.

I hope this helps someone else in the future.
