Google Nest Wifi - NAT Performance Issue

Nest Wifi Model : H2D and Software Version 13729.57.27

In NAT ("normal") mode, the Google Nest performs source-NAT (translating IP addresses on the LAN/wifi side to the WAN IP address of the Google Nest as traffic exits the Google Nest WAN interface).

I have found a major performance hit when used in this mode. I tested using an iPerf3 server on the same local segment as the Google Nest's WAN link. To reach that iPerf3 server from the LAN/wifi side, the Google Nest performs single-NAT. The performance dropped by 90% compared with Bridge Mode (when the Google Nest does not perform any NAT).

Note this is not a "Double-NAT" issue - I tested only Google Nest's (single) NAT and the iPerf3 server is local (not on the Internet). The wifi performance is not the issue (wifi performance is excellent). Also the problem does not arise when the iPerf3 server is directly connected to the Google Nest LAN Ethernet port (when no NAT is being performed by Google Nest)

Has anyone else seen this issue ?

Could this be related to QoS btw? Have you tried to disable preferred activities? Or enable priority device for the device you are testing against on Google Wifi LAN side?
