Hello @Oldsmobuick

Yes, this usually works. I upgraded from an old Apple Airport Extreme system to my current Google WiFi system years ago, and I used the same SSID and password – my devices all connected just fine. The only time you might run into trouble is if something used to be authenticating using an obsolete version of WPA that isn't supported. There's also a chance some devices will be grumpy about the BSSID changing, but that should be rare. In short, I would definitely do this since it will likely cover the vast majority of your existing devices, and if you do have to reset a few, that's easier than having to reset all of them.

Hi, Oldsmobuick.

It looks like MichaelP was able to answer your question for you. Before I mark this as resolved I wanted to check in and see if there were any other questions you might have. If there's more you need, just let us know.

Thanks!

Hi Jeff,

Your timing is perfect. My initial question was indeed answered, but I have a new issue now. I connected an unmanaged switch to the LAN connection of my nest device and I am being told there is no access to the internet. Is there a limitation of how many connections I can have on the switch? It seems to work for a little while and then just quits. Any thoughts?

Hey, Oldsmobuick.

To make sure I understand, you have the switch wired behind your WiFi router, correct? The modem goes into the WiFi and then you're using the ethernet port out from the router to the switch? That should work just fine and I'm actually running the same setup on my own network to give my desktop a hardwired connection. If you unplug the switch, does your signal immediately come back on?

Thanks.

Hello Jeff, turns out my switch was the issue. I replaced the switch and now everything works perfectly. Thank you for the followup.
