Thanks for the ping, @CountRushmore.

This is interesting info you are all flushing out here. I'll need to pass this along to our internal teams and see if they are able to verify the results and see if that leads to some explanations here. If you notice any other patterns, feel free to post them here. And while the speed test seems to help, it's definitely a bit of runaround it would be nice to avoid going forward.

Thanks.

I have the original Nest Wifi plus the gen 2 Google Wifi (one point and one router). I've opened at least 3 cases with Google and once they've looked into it, I never get a response (via email or chat).

The issue is that after a week or so, when I have multiple wifi access points active, the speed goes to less than 1 mbps from my device to the internet. If I plug my laptop into the router point, it works at over 400 mbps (I have a 500 mbps connection via fiber) but when I'm connected to the point via wifi, it's less than 1. There is no interference because when I plug in a Netgesr Orbi, it works fine (at least 3-4 weeks, which is when I reinstall the Google Nest APs.

Anyone else having this trouble? I'd love it if Google at least acknowledged the issue and was working on a solution but it seems that Google is too busy to try and solve the issue and the Orbi is my only solution.

Thoughts?

Well, I’ve at least heard from Google Nest support but it appears they still don’t want to acknowledge the problem. It’s clearly not an interference issue since replacing the Google Nest points (router and remotes) resolves the issue. More updates as I get them; hopefully this gets resolved soon.

Next time it gets slow run an internet speed test from the wifi device in the Google Home App.

Then test from our device again.

I will certainly give that a try since I’d rather not have to buy a whole new system. Is there an explanation as to why that resolves the issue? If it works then I’d say it is 100% a software issue. I’ll post once I’m able to test; it won’t take more than a day or two once I put the second point online. Thanks!

You may have discovered the solution. My speed had dropped into the 200s (which is completely fine, but heading towards 0) so I ran a Speedtest. After running it, speed was around 450. I’ll have to add another point and see. Thanks again!

Another tidbit; it would appear to get resolved not by running the speedtest but clicking the Done button when the speedtest is complete. I’ve only tested it a few times but if I don’t click Done, the speed doesn’t seem to resolve but once I click done it is restored. Perhaps a function runs some sort of cleanup when Done is clicked?

Another bit of data; I have added in one of my remote points which is on a different floor from the router point but not far on the y-axis (30 ft or less). When I run speed tests when I’m connected to the remote point, I get between 30 and 80 mbps. If I power it off, I reconnect to the primary router point and the speed test returns to 400+ mbps. I am not sure that this is helpful (or even if I need a remote point at all). Hopefully this tidbit is helpful to getting this resolved.

It’s not definitive yet but this may be resolved, at least when only one point is involved. My speed has stayed consistent at 400+ mbps for a week now with no speed tests; I am adding another point to see what happens. Fingers crossed!

Other points are still causing trouble. If I add one point, after a day it slows to between 5 and 25 mbps (while that seems incredibly fast, it isn’t - long gone are the days of a 1.5 mb T1); doing a speedtest does nothing at all to help (ok button or not). Removing the point (by unplugging it) resolves the issue immediately. Perhaps now something in the mesh code that didn’t get resolved when the issue with the single point got fixed? Idk but staying with one (router) point is still fine.

It might be worth checking, yes. I personally used a mixed set of Google WiFi points, a Nest point, and Nest router.
