Do you have to have internet for the device or does it come with built in wifi??

Assuming you're asking about the Google WiFi or Nest WiFi Router products, they require an existing internet connection of some kind. It must provide an Ethernet (wired) connection to the first Google/Nest WiFi unit that is set up. They will then provide WiFi connectivity to client devices in your home, and can provide wired connectivity through another Ethernet port.
