Hi,

The google home IOS App displays the network speed I am paying for c 600mbps down and up. However a cat 7 ethernet cable plugged into the other port and a laptop (with a 1 BG NIC and wifi off) gets c 350 down and up. I get the same speed when plugged directly into the ISP box with he same laptop. Any idea how the IOS App measures speed, when running a wired ISP speed test shows the 350 speed. Any ideas?

Nest Wifi has QoS (quality of service) built in, which tries to prioritise important traffic, which speed tests are not.

You can't disable QoS in its entirety. You can however try to disable all preferred activities, it might help:

Let me give that a try. The only other thing I thought of was my 1 GB NIC on my work laptop not delivering ...

The NIC will likely deliver either 1000mbps (gigabit), 100mpbs (fast) or 10mbps, not something in between.

Hi,

There are no prioritised services. I still have near ISP speed reported on the App, but can't get anywhere near this when plugged directly into the ISP box or even on the spare ethernet port on the google box either. So at the moment the only thing that gets close to the speed I am paying for is the google IOS app speed test. Andrew

You are not getting the speed you are paying for even if connected by cable directly to the ISP equipment, bypassing Nest Wifi? Then you should start with that, ask your ISP why that is.

How do you measure speed on a device connected by cable, speedtest.net in a web browser?

Have you tried with a different device that can be connected by ethernet, to eleminate that NIC you were talking about?
