Hi! I've tried factory resetting the device, but to the same result as before. The process involves connecting to the WiFi, so it appears to connect, but it still doesn't work. As I'm in uni halls, I can't change the router settings or the network name. Thanks for the suggestions guys, I appreciate it.

You turned Bluetooth and location on? Also during configuration it should be better in near vicinity of the device (<1m).

If you've already changed to a different Wi-Fi network, try these steps:

Open the Google Home app.

At the top left, tap Add + > Set up device + > New device > set up new devices in your home.

Follow the in-app steps.

If these steps above don’t solve the issue, you’ll need to factory reset your speaker or display, then set it up again using your new Wi-Fi network and password.

Instead of factory resetting your speaker or display, if you're comfortable changing your router settings, you can change your new Wi-Fi network name and password in your router's settings to be the same as the previous ones. Your device should then automatically connect to the Wi-Fi.

That part about being in uni halls is crucial, that generally means you're using what's known as a captive portal, that requires you to login to the Wi-Fi first to be able to connect to the internet. Chromecast, Google Home and Google Nest devices don't support these kind of Wifi systems, known as captive portals, that require you to login first to be able to access the internet.

There are 2 possible solutions for this:

Check with whoever manages your Wifi if they have a process to whitelist your device. They do this by allowing the unique MAC address of the device. Not all providers will be setup do this however. In addition, even this may not work on some Wifi networks, as the the administrator may have enabled a security feature called client isolation, which prevents different devices from communicating with each other (i.e. your phone communicating with your device).

Although unsupported by Google, you can try to use a phone or tablet as a Wifi hotspot. However, this will then use your mobile data plan, which could be expensive for you depending on the data plan you have with your carrier. Note you will need 2 devices to set this up.

Turn on the Wifi hotspot feature on a phone or tablet. If you're not sure how to do this, refer to the manufacturer's support website.

Connect a second phone or tablet to that Wifi hotspot.

You can then use that second phone or tablet to setup your Google Home and connect it to the Wifi hotspot on the first phone or tablet.
