Hi,

I purchased a Google Nest Mesh network (router and 2 wifi points) several weeks back. Our old modem (which is still used to receive the broandband connection and feed it into the mesh router) is where my PC is connected to the network via ethernet.

This seems to have resulted in my PC still being able to connect to the internet, but not to the WIFI printer, which is now connected to the new WIFI network created by the Google Nest system.

Does anyone know what I need to do to be able to have my PC access the printer that is connected to the Mesh network?

Thank you!

Greg

Nest Wifi is also a router, with NAT, firewall, DHCP. You now have a firewall between the printer and your PC.

The solution is to connect your printer (and all other wired and wireless devices) to the Nest Wifi too. If you are out of ethernet ports, you can add an unmanaged switch.

This is a resurfing topic, see previous discussions for more info. 🙂

Thanks olavrb,

I'm not sure if the issue is that the PC has a firewall between it and the printer, or if the PC is on a different network to the printer? When we set up the Google Nest WiFi mesh network, it created a new network for the home. My PC is still, connected via ethernet to the "modem router" that the Nest is plugged into. Maybe I have plugged it in the wrong way? It seems that my PC is still getting its internet from the ethernet port on the modem/router, but because the wireless printer is on the new "Nest" WiFi network, the printer and the PC are not talking to each other. Does this fit with your solution above? Thanks, Greg

Firewall in between, and two different networks/ subnet is both correct.

The best is to set the ISP equipment in bridge mode, to void double NAT, then have all devices connected to Nest Wifi, either by cable or wireless.

Just connect the printer and the device your are printing from to the same network: Either modem or Nest Wifi. That should work even if you can't bridge the modem/ ISP equipment.

Preferably put everything behind Nest Wifi, even though you can't bridge the ISP equipment. You'll have double NAT like you have currently, but it should work just fine.
